This problem is well thought out. It is easy to understand which makes it easy to solve. The story makes sense which is useful for the reader. We agree with Taarini and Shubh that you could have used p for pears instead of apples.
The main problem with this word problem is that I have no idea what p even represents. What does it mean that the farmers bought 3p apples? Start from the basics. Figure out what p represents, and then take p on a journey. Overall, I like your ideas though.
My only other question: You wrote two story problems, but which one do you want to use? You need to rewrite this, taking p on a journey of some sort.
Jerry had a storage of cheese hidden in his room. Jerry’s friend Pup came for a visit and gave him some cheese, and the total amount of cheese left was three times the amount he had before. While Jerry was on a walk in the park, he found 10 pieces of cheese in a treasure box and added that to his collection. At midnight, a fairy came and surprised Jerry by asking what his wish was. Jerry told the fairy that he wanted lots and lots of cheese. After the fairy left, Jerry counted his cheese storage, and was delighted to find that now he had four times the amount of cheese he had before. While Jerry was out playing with Pup, Tom went and stole 10 pieces of cheese from Jerry’s storage. When Jerry came back, there were only 42 pieces of cheese left.
How much cheese did Jerry first have hidden in his room at first?
