  1. 1. I did study for this Algebra test by going to a tuition centre and solving multiple past papers from previous years. I also used the resources provided by Mrs. Haywood and made sure I clearly understood all the problems in the past exam papers.
    2. I would say I am quite strong at the equations that just require one answer. I feel that these are my strengths because I clearly understand the rules for problems such as simplifying, factorizing, etc.
    3. I need to improve on my problem solving skills especially writing out the equations for word problems so I can find out the answer to the question without confusing myself. I should also improve on reading the questions carefully so I can thoroughly understand the process of finding the answer.
    4. My goals are to make sure to ask my Mr. Jobe questions if there are any areas in what we do in class that I don’t understand and to read questions more carefully.

  2. For this end of year algebra test, I did study for a fair amount of time. I studied for this by going for math tuition and practicing using the resources we were given on the Google Drive from pervious years tests. From this test, I think that my strengths and strongest areas would be expanding and factorizing and also I think that I am relatively good at using algebra to solve some word problems and applying my knowledge to form equations. I feel like these our my strengths in algebra because I did quite well in those areas in the test, and I generally feel like I find those areas the easiest. The areas from the test that I need to improve on is predominantly the extension questions especially dividing algebraic equations which involve indices as I didn’t score highly and found those slightly challenging. Also the last few complex word problems on the extension were relatively complicated and I think I should practice more of those kind of problems to be able to do better in the extension in future tests. My goal for the last few weeks of class would probably be to attempt to fully understand all the index laws and concepts involving indices to be able to solve hard problems that require these principles. Also I would like to be very focused during in the next couple of weeks. Overall I feel that the test turned out to be comparatively alright but it was one of the toughest tests as well, although, I was pleased with my score and felt that I could have improved in the extension.

  3. I studied for the test by using the resources given to me on google drive as well as going for math tuition where I revised the previous tests. My strengths and strongest points would be word problems, factorising and expanding. Though some word problems are I feel that I can normally form an equation. I think I need to improve on the extension, after reviewing the questions- I found it quite straightforward. I think I hadn't practiced enough of algebraic equations with indices and fractions therefore I lost marks there. During the extension- the complex word equations caught me off guard. I didn't really read some of the questions correctly therefore I wasn't able to solve them. My 2 goals for this year are to focus more so I can fully understand indices and the concepts. I would also like to practice more challenging/ extension like problems.

  4. I did study for the algebra test by reviewing the formulas in my book, repeating old questions and doing some of the pass papers on Google Drive. I found that my factorising and word equations went well as I studied them in great detail and i find them easy to work with and find them very logical. I need to improve on my reading of the questions so i do not make careless errors and avoid losing marks. I should also learn my formulas in more detail to benefit my problem solving abilities. In the next week my goals are to get a better and full understanding of algebra. The second goal is to get a head start on next years work in order to be ahead and have a good understand of the material.

  5. I studied for this test by doing questions from past year test papers that were shared with us by Ms. Haywood. In algebra, I feel that I am strong in factorizing, expanding and simplifying equations. But I feel that I am weak on word equations. For example, reading a word equation and being able to interpret what information is needed, making an equation for it, and then solving it. Also on the test, I didn’t check my answer twice, that is why I had so many careless mistakes in part one. My goal until the end of the year is to participate more in class and to ask Mr. Jobe if I have any questions, so that I will have a good understanding of algebra by the end of this year, which will also benefit me for the next school year.

  6. I did study for the test, but not as much as I would’ve liked. To revise I read over our notes from when we did algebra in the past. I would say that my strengths in algebra are things that have one definite set of rules to follow, such as expanding, simplifying and factorizing. I need to improve on not making careless mistakes, because I lost a few marks because of that, even though I understood what to do. I need to work on my word problems because I find it hard to transform word problems into solvable equations. I also need to just attempt at solving harder equations if I’m not sure of them. My goal for the last two weeks of class is to have a clearer understanding of algebra so I’m ready for next year.

  7. 1.  Did you study for this test?  If so, what did you do?
Yes, I reviewed the concepts, then used them to solve question in a math textbook.

    2.  What areas of the test would you say are your strengths?  Why do you feel they are your strengths?
I feel like solving equations are my strength as I find them the easiest and the most logical.

What areas of the test do you need improvement on?  What are they?
I think that the areas I need to work on is writing questions from word problems. I think that this is my weakness area due to the fact that I often find it hard to pick out the information I need out of the text, I also struggle with figuring out where to then put that information in order to make an equation.

Write a goal for the last two weeks of class.
I would like to be more confident in writing equations.

  8.  Did you study for this test?  If so, what did you do?

Yes, I did study for this test. To study for this test I went over important concepts which would be included in the test and then I applied these concepts to problems which I solved. I also did some of the end of year tests on Google Drive and the review test.

What areas of the test would you say are your strengths?  Why do you feel they are your strengths?

Parts 1 and 2 were definitely my strengths. These parts included simple concepts but also some equation forming and solving. I believe that the concepts in parts 1 and 2 were my strengths because they were concepts we learned in class and concepts which were logical and interesting.

What areas of the test do you need improvement on?  What are they?

I definitely need to improve on part 3 of the test. Part 3 contained challenging questions which required us to form and solve equations. Essentially I need to work on forming and solving challenging equations. I also need to work on understanding the questions better so I can solve and form the equation with more ease.

Write a goal for the last two weeks of class.

My first goal for the last two weeks of class is to read questions more carefully and to isolate the key information so that I can understand the question better. My other goal is to try and tackle more challenging questions more confidently and to spend more time on challenging questions so I can try and solve them.
